Capt Md. Salah Uddin Chowdhury started his sea career in 1988, joining on board a merchant vessel as a Deck Cadet and continued for 20 years before he left sea. Worked on board as 3rd officer, 2nd officer, Chief Officer & finally served as Master (Captain), in different renowned companies at home and abroad.

He has obtained his Master Mariner (Class 1) Certificate of Competency (CoC) from MCA, UK. Besides the above, he has completed his BTEC Higher National Diploma (HND) from the UK as well. He has also participated in various professional courses, such as International Training on Port Management, Shipping Management & Container Terminal Management, Shipping, Logistics & International Trade Documents, ISM code 2010 & Auditor training, Merchant Navy Defense Training, BTEC Certificate of Achievement, etc. He is a Fellow Member of The Nautical Institute (AFNI), LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM, and a Member of the Executive Committee of the Nautical Institute of Chattogram branch.

Background of his professional responsibilities encompassed the following:

▪Crew Manager for Prestige Ship Management PTE LTD, Singapore;

▪Operation Manager, DPA, CSO, for 7 Seas Ship Management PTE LTD, Singapore.

▪Operation Director, DPA, and CSO for Marine (Agency) Services Limited (a concern for Shipping agents, Ship Manning, and Ship Manager).

▪Director of SW Shipping and Logistic Services Limited (associated with inland shipping services & container movements).

▪Country Representative & Authorized Marine Surveyor for MACOSNAR Corporation for arranging a survey of Panama, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Belize, Tanzania & Togo flagged vessels.

▪Country Representative of PMA certification authority – for arranging Panama and Belize COC & COR for seafarers.

He has participated/experienced on following activities:

▪Technical management within MSC, Vship (MSI), and BSM. FESM vessels;

▪Marine Surveys for light/load draft surveys, condition surveys, damage Surveys (Hull), Bunker surveys (off-hire/on hire), PNI Insurance & H&M Underwriters.

▪Crew Management with competent personnel for various foreign Ship owners and managers, preparation of certification/visa formalities/ joining to vessel and follow up on Crew performance & changeover.

▪Renewal of Statutory certificates and coordinating Port state / Flag State / Class Surveys and surveyors; Conversant with PSC inspection under Paris MOU, Tokyo MOU & others, through several Maritime bodies.

▪Has experience in various types of ISO/ISM Internal and external Auditing since 1989.

▪Well conversant with International Safety Management Systems (ISMS), and statutory legal compliance. //
